Now at the end they only allowed 11.300 supporters to come into the stadium because the building isn’t really that what it should be. In a few years they want to build the stadium back and leave just the main stand there. It should be a public football pitch then. (Although I read – a few months ago – they wanted to blow it up).
Well. At first I wanted to write a whole paragraph about this topic. The farewell of the beloved stadium. But I can’t get it. I’m just listening to a FCSG-song and it’s a little bit a melancholic mood now:P

Next season there is the AFG Arena with a capacity of 14000 seating and 7000 standing room. The stadium is more in the west of the city and I know I will miss the screaming and the fan songs and the raucous bawling I hear from my house when SG is playing.
Here comes/is the new stadium. Somewhere in the West.To say goodbye to the stadium I have to mention a little bit of the history just to say what this stadium experienced:
SG was Swiss champion twice. Once in 1904, nobody can remember I guess. But the second time it was in 2000. Before the season 1999/2000 FCSG was predicted a place under the line what means they would be last. But under coach Marcel Koller FCSG became totally surprisingly Swiss champion for the first time since 96 years. At the end we had an advance of 10 points to the second team Basel. The Ghanaian Charles Amoah became best scorer of the season. I don’t really remember that time myself. The only thing I remember is this one: when there were lightning and thunder, everybody at school said “Hey look! That’s Amoah shooting the ball!” So sweeeeeet, isn’t it? Little children saying it’s Amoah when there is thunder:P Although I had no idea of football to that time I knew the name Charles Amoah. He was the only one.
After the champions season we lost the Champions League qualification because of Galatasaray Istanbul. In the UEFA Cup we eventually managed to beat Chelsea London. We still remember that match nowadays. In the next round there was the Out against FC Brügge after a goal against us in the 93rd minute of the return game.
In the last round of the season 2000/2001 the Swiss championship was decided between FCSG, the Grasshoppers and the FC Lugano. FCSG lost against the Grasshoppers their first loss at home since two years and the Grasshoppers became champion. FCSG had just got the third place. In the UEFA Cup we lost in spite of a 1:0 victory on outer pitch against the German team SC Freiburg.
A lot of players followed a more lucrative offering afterwards and since that time we just played in the middle of the league if we weren’t fighting against the relegation.
“Das isch üsen FC Sanggallä, do bi dir sind mir dihei! Für immer und ewig, meh als äs Lebä lang!“

FCSG FOR EVER....AND LONGER!
